Alternative Therapies

Dance, music, art or any form of self expression in a unique and creative way has been proven to access and awaken the unconscious mind and improve mental and physical well-being.

Dance Therapy

Dance have been a way of self expression throughout history in all cultures and levels of society. In ancient societies dance was often used in healing rituals. In 1942 Marian Chance introduced dance as part of medical therapies. Dance or movement therapy can reduce stress, improve circulation and help reduce feelings of depression and can be considered a form of Exercise, to improve movement and reduce muscle tension alleviating the pain caused by Fibromyalgia.

Art Therapy

Drawing and Painting have been proven to help individuals in recovery from severe traumas and illnesses in the past 20 years. Using paint to express emotions can access feelings and create a sense of well being. Well being induces relaxation.

Music Therapy

Music can also have a soothing effect on our feeling of stress. The sound of a melody that we enjoy creates a good feeling. Tone , tempo, pitch can influence how we feel. We can listen or participate in creating music by keeping a rhythm, beat, playing an instrument or harmonizing. These activities stimulates our hearing and sends sound impulses through our bodies which can provide relaxation and help with muscle ache.

There are no experimental studies that show an evaluation of Dance Therapies, Art Therapies or Music Therapies and Fibromyalgia sufferers. It is always recommended that you consult a physician before participating in any kind of therapy that involves movement of joints and muscle. For these therapies it is suggested that you research and make sure your therapist is qualified and registered with the appropriate regulatory body.
