The
exact cause of fibromyalgia has not been established. The researchers
believe that there is no single cause. Similar lifestyles and life experiences
among those that suffer from FMS have been found. The retention of a biochemical
substance (ATP adenosine phosphate) within our cells that causes energy
deficit. Retention of phosphate causes Fibromyalgia. 90% of those that
suffer from fibromyalgia are women between the ages of 20 to 55. Theories
such as physical injuries to the upper body, emotional stress or traumas
and anything from a flu virus, an infection, in addition to prolonged
illness, surgeries or emotional stress can affect the nervous system’s
response to pain and trigger fibromyalgia in some people. There are sensitive
pressure points on our body which are shown on the figure below.
